Expanding Horizons One at a Time

The American University of Kinshasa is a bilingual institution in which the teaching languages are English and French. Students usually attend our language center to achieve a satisfactory level in English or French.

The University offers undergraduate programs and soon will offer graduate programs, leading respectively to Bachelor's degrees, Master's or Ph.D. degrees.

Majors Offered:

Admission to undergraduate programs requires of the student candidate a high school diploma obtained through a national test or equivalent, rank in class, recommendation or interview.

A master's degree candidate must have a minimum of 30 semester hours of approved graduate credit with minimum average of B and no grade below C.

A doctoral student needs 60 semester hours of approved graduate credit beyond the master's level or 90 semester hours beyond the bachelor's level. Of these hours, a minimum of 30 semester hours will involve work on an approved dissertation.

Honorary Degrees:

The University accepts requests and recommendations on behalf of candidates for Honorary Bachelor and Doctor Degrees.

The University will award honorary degrees to individuals who have made significant contributions to the business, industrial, cultural, educational, intellectual, social, moral or material welfare of society.

Special consideration is given to individuals who feel impelled by a sense of duty to humanity and an earnest desire to make a significant contribution to African higher education through an exceptional humanitarian act of philanthropy to the American University of Kinshasa.

The honorary degree practice also intends to elevate the University in the eyes of the world by honoring individuals for moral values, achievements in their respective fields of endeavor or outstanding contribution to the welfare of the University.
